Onta Kiln (Oita Prefecture) 

Dating back almost 300 years, the Onta Kiln is one of the oldest in Kyushu, located in the remote mountains north of the town of Hita. In a small settlement of only 9 families –all pottery craftsmen– big jars with bright colorful glazes, plates with traditional brushed designs, and various tablewares are produced in a community kiln.
